SE FLORIDA STYLE & DESIGN sat down with top gallery owners and artists to get their thoughts and perspectives on art collecting and where the industry is headed, how social media factors into the collecting process and how Millennials are changing the landscape.

Everyone agrees, the rapid rise of Millennials collecting art is changing how it is bought and sold. Though they represent a small percentage of sales, Millennials are the fastest-growing segment of collectors. Technology is also changing the way galleries and artists interact with collectors. Social media has become the go-to platform for artists to interact directly with collectors and want-to-be collectors. Galleries are using social media and websites to keep clients and collectors updated on a minute-by-minute basis, if they desire. One thing is for sure, all the artists and owners we spoke to agree on the same advice for those starting to collect: love the art and think less about the cost.
